I. Equipment Structure

The vertical side-opening ion plating and vacuum coating equipment adopts a vertical cavity design with side quick-opening compartments. It is suitable for the clamping and removal of batch-sized workpieces. The core structure consists of five modules: vacuum system, ion plating core system, workpiece clamping system, control system, and auxiliary system.

II. Working Principle

The vertical side-opening ion plating equipment is based on the physical vapor deposition (PVD) ion plating technology. The core is to ionize the target material atoms in a vacuum environment and deposit them onto the workpiece surface through an electric field to form a film.

Advantages of Vertical Side-Opening Design
  • Convenient workpiece loading and unloading: The side door does not occupy the top space, which is suitable for the hoisting and clamping of large and heavy workpieces. Compared with top-opening equipment, it significantly reduces the labor intensity of loading and unloading and improves production efficiency.
  • High cavity utilization rate: The vertical layout enables the workpiece to be vertically suspended, resulting in better rotational uniformity during coating and avoiding the problem of obstruction between the workpiece and the target material. It is suitable for coating small parts or long-shaped workpieces.
Strong process adaptability
  • Compatible with various ion plating processes such as magnetron sputtering ion plating and arc ion plating, capable of preparing various film layers including metal films, alloy films, and compound hard films (such as TiN, TiCN, DLC).
  • Wide range of process parameter adjustment, by adjusting gas ratios, target current, and workpiece bias voltage, to meet the performance requirements of different workpieces.

Integrated PLC control system, supporting one-click automatic operation, reducing manual intervention; process parameters can be stored and recalled to ensure consistency of coating quality for different batches.

Energy conservation and environmental protection

The vacuum coating process has no waste liquid or exhaust gas emissions, making it more environmentally friendly compared to electroplating; it adopts efficient heating and cooling systems, with lower energy consumption than horizontal coating equipment of the same production capacity.

V. Equipment Advantages
  • Excellent film layer performance: The deposited film layer has high hardness (HV1000~4000), high adhesion, and low friction coefficient. It has far superior wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance compared to traditional electroplated layers.
  • High production efficiency: The side-opening design enables quick loading and unloading of workpieces, combined with batch rotating workholding frames, allowing for a large number of coating workpieces per batch; the equipment has a fast vacuum pumping speed and a short process cycle (generally 1~3 hours per batch).
  • Little workpiece deformation: The coating temperature is controllable, compared to high-temperature chemical plating, the thermal deformation of the workpiece is minimal, making it suitable for precision parts (such as tools, molds, and precision hardware) coating.
  • Convenient operation and maintenance: The side-opening design facilitates cleaning of the cavity, replacement of the target material, and equipment maintenance; the control system interface is user-friendly, with complete fault diagnosis functions, reducing the operational threshold.
  • Widely applicable: It can handle different material workpieces (metal, ceramics, hard alloys) and different shaped workpieces (flat, curved, complex cavity parts).
