Technology Overview
The Electron Beam Optical Coating Machine is a core equipment in precision optical manufacturing. It uses high-energy electron beams to melt, evaporate, and ionize high-melting-point optical materials, then deposits the vaporized materials onto substrate surfaces to form ultra-thin, uniform, high-performance optical films. These films are widely used in optical components including anti-reflection films, high-reflection films, filter films, and polarization films for applications in optics, electronics, aerospace, and semiconductor industries.
Working Principle
Vacuum Environment Creation
The entire coating process occurs in a high-vacuum chamber to prevent vaporized material from reacting with air or being scattered by gas molecules, ensuring film purity and allowing vapor to reach the substrate smoothly for dense film formation.
Electron Beam Generation & Acceleration
An electron gun generates electrons through thermionic emission, which are accelerated by a high-voltage electric field to obtain high kinetic energy.
Target Material Heating & Evaporation
High-energy electron beams are focused by magnetic lenses onto target material surfaces, converting kinetic energy into thermal energy to rapidly heat materials to evaporation temperatures (even for materials with melting points above 2000°C).
Vapor Deposition & Film Formation
Vaporized material particles move in straight lines within the vacuum chamber and deposit onto rotating substrate surfaces, accumulating to form thin films with specific structures and optical properties.
In-Situ Monitoring & Control
Quartz crystal microbalance or optical monitoring systems track film thickness and refractive index in real-time, feeding data to control units that adjust electron beam power, substrate temperature, and deposition rates to ensure films meet design requirements.
